How It All Started | Our Story

Hi, hello! I’m Tomi, founder of saymêgrace. I am so excited that YOU are here! I can’t wait to share with you the story of how saymêgrace was born.

Apart from our pretty and delicious wellness and beauty teas, the saymêgrace brand aims to spark positive change at an individual and wider level. It’s something I’ve made sure every customer can be part of too – so let’s share in that together (just like a great cup of tea).

Prior to introducing saymêgrace to the world, I spent a number of years working in the beauty industry. Some of my favourite career highlights include contributing to some really cool editorial shoots, backstage fashion shows and facilitating makeup masterclasses. I got the chance to meet and work with industry well-known senior artists and influencers and best of all, work alongside some of the most talented makeup artists who inspired me every single day.

Despite how amazing that period in my life was, I’ve struggled from self-doubt and mental health issues for the longest time. The pressures I put on myself at the time were magnified by standards the beauty industry has, and how they were portrayed on social media every day. As a young person, I wish I had known more about how to help navigate my feelings - and I know I’m probably not alone in thinking that!

Do you ever wake up and feel like everything is off balance or a little gloomy, and no matter what you do, it’s a struggle to find the bright side? I feel you! I realised that beginning to battle those difficult moments begins with just taking a single (baby) step. Introducing (and sticking to) a self-care routine really does go hand-in-hand with mental health management.

I felt a noticeable shift in my perspective and happiness once I developed ways (both big and small) to help spark more positivity in my life – after all you can’t have the rainbow without the rain!

After all, your mind is one of your most bangin’ features, so you gotta to look after it!

The vision for saymêgrace is to inspire positivity and self-love. We all have those scents that wake us up and bring back beautiful memories that get us feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Maybe it’s freshly baked bread or cut grass or raindrops (Maria was right with her Sound of Music ‘Favourite Things’).

For me, whenever I smell the gentle floral or sweet aromatic scent coming from my teacup, I’m instantly taken back to the endless hours (with many, many cups of tea) I’ve spent with God. Moments where the real truth was revealed, cancelling out the noise and lies that I was never going to be good enough.

Tea has always been, subconsciously, part of a self-care ritual for me. It was there whenever I felt like I needed a moment of calm, to disconnect from stresses of daily life and all the thoughts in my head. I would take a quiet moment with a cup of tea in my hands to unwind and reconnect to myself. There’s something so soothing and calming about a peaceful moment with a cup of aromatic, delicious tea in your hands.

Realising how much this practice truly helped me, made me feel hopeful of how much it could also help others, whilst also bringing wellness benefits in a bespoke, delicious tea blend. So, saymêgrace was born.

The saymêgrace name embodies part of my background as a proud Vietnamese Australian; ‘say mê’ means passion and the pursuit of a certain goal, whilst ‘grace’ serves as a reminder for me to be kind to myself and give myself grace when my mind has other ideas.

I wished I could bottle that exact feeling of grace, but since I can’t, saymêgrace is here instead to inspire you to discover that feeling for yourself while sharing the true beauty of tea.

I want saymêgrace to play a part in reinventing and reinvigorating the way people drink the world’s second favourite beverage (yup, tea!), as part of a daily self-care, graceful-beauty ritual.

saymêgrace is an Australian owned, female-led company. We embrace and embody two key pillars; beauty and kindness. We don’t take ourselves too seriously (coz life’s too short!) and you won’t find any tea snobs here, just fellow tea lovers who are passionate about giving back to our tea drinking tribe.

I wanted to ensure we practice what we preach by using a holistic means of growing and handling each ingredient, from the soil, plants, animals, food, people and environment. Organic products are grown and processed without the use of synthetic chemicals, fertilisers and GMO’s using an innovative method of farming and production – got to love that!

This also means you have peace of mind, knowing you’re drinking something brewed from the highest quality ingredients (+love), whilst also supporting our environment and the farmers (who are working towards ecologically sustainable practices) with every purchase. Oh, did we mention our packaging is also eco-friendly and recyclable, and we use a carbon-neutral delivery service.

I hope you’ll be as IN LOVE as I am with the bright, gradient rainbow colours used in our saymêgrace packaging! They were inspired the beautiful Australian sky and beaches, whilst delivering an instant shot of happiness and positivity to your day each time you open!

Our loose-leaf teas are pretty spectacular (if we do say so ourselves). If you’re wondering what the difference is between a regular ole’ tea bag, and a loose-leaf blend, just think of loose-leaf tea as a tea bag’s older sister – the taste and quality are that little bit ‘’more’’. You’ll just have to try it for yourself!

All of our teas and tisanes are hand-blended using the freshest all-natural ingredients (no nasties here) and 100% made in Australia from premium local and imported ingredients. Each ingredient is carefully selected and blended for taste and its benefit to your health and wellness – quality is Queen (or King) here!

Our teas are all cruelty-free, GMO free and do not contain any, artificial scents flavours or preservatives. The best part? Each blend has been formulated with ingredients specifically chosen to work wonders to your skin and health and nourish your holistic beauty from the inside out!

There’s nothing for the soul quite like giving back to others in need. We’ve partnered with I=Change®, so every purchase you make directly helps make a meaningful change in the world. You choose which charity project you want the contribution from your purchase to be donated to and can see how much you helped raise PLUS its impact in real-time, with 100% transparency. We’re all in this together and can make real difference whilst being kind to ourselves and others.

Brewing a beautiful cup of tea takes a bit of time.  It’s a thoughtful and considerate process – from the time it takes to heat your water (forget you did and heat again – or is that just me?), to allowing your tea to steep and infuse in your cup or teapot, releasing liquid joy. Then getting to sip your delicious, freshly brewed cuppa. Tea is an experience that can be so personal and different for each of us.

I can imagine how we all have our own little versions of a tea ‘ritual’. Perhaps you are a fan of the ‘Gong Fu’ style of brewing.  Who cringed at the thought of tea bags and preferred to appreciate tea with a full tasting ceremony. Or, maybe you’re an iced tea addict who loves a big jug (you like big jugs and you cannot lie) and sharing the experience with friends and family. Or, maybe, you – like me, like to take some quiet, reflective time for yourself, by yourself. Whatever it is, you do you, babe! That is the beauty of it - make your own saymêgrace ritual that fits you best.

Does reading this makes you feel like you can use a cuppa right about…now? I know I do. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get our brew on!

Spread the love
